What our customers say
We have employed Matt of M.J Carpentry & Joinery consistently over several years to assist us in refurbishing our 1970’s home.
Matt has replaced all of our doors and thresholds, laid oak flooring in study and hall, lined new internal glazed openings with oak frames, replaced skirtings, built an oak shelf and fire surround, and most recently constructed oak hand rails to upgrade the staircase.
Matt constructed birch plywood bookcases, a display unit and bench seating/storage system to our design. He also constructed and erected an external screen in the garden.
The quality of Matt’s work is exemplary. He works in an efficient, friendly and professional manner; paying great care and attention to ensure that the work in hand matched our expectations. He is extremely conscientious in the way he works and in tidying and clearing away once the job is finished.
We are delighted with the outcome of every project that Matt has undertaken for us and are very happy that they have been completed at a very fair price. We will certainly continue to employ M.J Carpentry & Joinery into the future.

M.J Carpentry & Joinery were brilliant. They did some bespoke cupboards for us in our lounge. We changed our minds and they were very accommodating. The company was very clean and tidy, cleared up every single day. Matt the owner is an extremely nice person. The price was very reasonable and he stuck to his quote. We are delighted with the job, they have also done other work for us and we would 100% recommend them!
In 2013 I bought an unloved Victorian cottage that was missing, among other things, the back door to the garage. I found M.J Carpentry & Joinery by chance on the internet before I moved to the area. What a lucky find! Since then they have done many jobs in the house, and I have always been delighted by the quality of work. The replacement garage door was the first of many, including the white front door described on their website. Nearly every internal door in the cottage was rehung, beautiful pine book shelves were made and they were also kind enough to put together some other flat pack book cases for me. Matt the owner also introduced me to a fellow craftsman and together they restored and re-roofed a small derelict outside privy. I have been very impressed by Matt’s flexibility and readiness to take on so many different kinds of job.
I have nothing but praise for the quality of his craftsmanship and the friendly professionalism Matt brings to his work. Always polite, punctual, helpful and meticulous, his input made the experience of renovating the cottage much better than might otherwise have been. We have already been planning the remaining jobs to be done in the kitchen and bathroom.
Very meticulous and neat worker who clears up and leaves the work area tidy when finished.
Will discuss your requests and be happy to guide as to the best and most economical way to achieve but with the quality element being central to the finished product.
‘Spot on’ time keeping and starts good and early, which I like!
Keeps a portfolio of work, which we liked as it’s nice to see examples before work proceeds.
It was a delight to find what we call a ‘classic carpenter’ with skills we thought were of days gone by, however who has all the modern gear to make the job precision finish.
Would recommend but not to widely as we still have lots for M.J Carpentry & Joinery to do and don’t want to have to join an even longer queue!
From a brief to construct a specific plan for two sets of different shelves to house books, vinyl records, TV, video and sound equipment, we relied on Matt from M.J Carpentry & Joinery to supply the detail of the practicalities.
Matt is a truly qualified craftsmen with expert advice. His attention to detail is meticulous and we were delighted with the result.
